A Multi-agent System for Distributed Ontology Learning

The Web offers a large amount of valuable information for every possible domain, but its human-oriented representation and its size makes difficult and extremely time consuming any kind of centralised computer-based processing. In this paper, a combination of distributed AI and information extraction techniques is proposed to tackle this problem. In particular, we have developed a knowledge acquisition platform that crawls the Web using a multi-agent system, composing knowledge structures for different domains from taxonomies of terms. Moreover, the obtained structure is used to represent, in a meaningful way, the web resources available in a domain.
