Movement-pattern models of pedestrians at intersections and the technology to reduce traffic accidents involving pedestrians or cyclists

A new application system for RFID technology to enhance driving safety, with the aim of reducing traffic accidents near intersections, was studied. An experimental system that senses the presence and position of pedestrians and cyclists equipped with the active tag, sends the sensed data to the on-board device of a vehicle near that position, and notifies the driver was set up. Since a pedestrian's pattern of movement at an intersection is complicated, it is difficult to design a perfect motion-pattern model from the start. For this reason, a basic movement-pattern model was developed which was refined into a practical movement-pattern model.
