Application of Optical Chaos to Temporal Pattern Search in a Nonlinear Optical Resonator

An adaptive parametric control method has been proposed for using intrinsic dynamical chaos in a nonlinear system to search among a large number of multistable oscillation modes. We describe the application to a nonlinear optical device with digital and feature coding of oscillation patterns. Computer simulations indicate the control scheme is robust. We discuss the implications for adaptive devices and optical computing.
