Reduction of PAPR in OFDM signals using fountain coded PTS

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is a popular method for high-data-rate wireless transmission and encoding digital data on multiple carrier frequencies. Though OFDM has several advantages, it has some disadvantages like large peak-to-average power ratio due to the superposition of all subcarrier signals, this leads to distortion problem at receiver. In current scenario, fountain codes are used to control Peak-to-Average Power Ratio of OFDM signals. By using this code OFDM packets can be generated with a low PAPR. Due to its flexibility of controlling PAPR it is considered as suitable for implementing random frame sizes and provides effective error detection. In this paper, effective PAPR reduction technique like Partial Transmit Sequence (PTS) and Selective Mapping (SLM) are used along with fountain codes. Among them PTS with fountain codes shows better PAPR reduction than SLM with fountain codes. Computer simulation results show the excellence of the proposed code.
