Design of the embedded gateway for 4G and PROFIBUS-DP based on FPGA

In order to make mobile communication technology be easily applied in industrial environment, the gateway for industrial fieldbus and other heterogeneous network has aroused great concern. Traditional software-based gateways show shortcomings in terms of high CPU utilization, long processing latency and poor performance. In this paper, we propose a FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) based gateway to connect Process Fieldbus Decentralized Periphery (PROFIBUS-DP) and the 4th Generation Mobile Network (4G). Considering the security of data transmission in gateway, the encryption algorithm based on AES 128bit is also adopted. The test results show that our proposed gateway can realize the protocol conversion and secure transmission between 4G and PROFIBUS-DP.
