Electric double layer capacitor with low series resistance fabricated by carbon nanotube addition

An electric double layer capacitor (EDLC) was fabricated with the addition of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) to the polarizable electrodes to act as a conducting material. This EDLC showed a low series resistance of 2.5 Ω, because the CNTs allow a greater number of the activated carbon particles to be connected electrically. This resistance value was lower than that of an EDLC fabricated with the addition of acetylene black, which is widely used in commercial EDLCs. The low series resistance increased the electric energy stored, even though the capacitance of the EDLC was not increased. Moreover, the energy efficiency, which is the ratio between the charge and the discharge electric power, is increased.
