Optimal switched reluctance motor drive for hydraulic pump unit

This paper presents a newly developed high-efficiency and low-noise 2.2 kW switched reluctance motor (SRM) which is designed to be most suitable for a hydraulic pump unit. By optimizing motor drive parameters such as the conduction angle and width of the exciting wave, and exiting mode, the motor efficiency is improved by 6%. Based on the evaluation factor of the acoustic noise, a 12-8 type SRM is selected to reduce the noise. By applying this SRM drive to the hydraulic pump unit, approximately 5dBA acoustic noise level reduction and more than 50% reduction of the electric power consumption of the system is obtained comparing with the conventional unit.
