Application of phase information for TOA determination in UWB direct conversion receivers

Time of signal arrival determination accuracy has a great impact on a UWB positioning system performance. The method proposed in the paper utilizes samples of a baseband signal available in direct conversion receivers. The time of arrival is calculated from quadrature signal components. The paper contains the description of the proposed method and presents results of its investigation. The method was investigated with simulations and tested with signals recorded with the DW1000 UWB chip. Results of investigations are included in the paper.
