Raman spectra of orthorhombic sulfur at 40 K

High-quality Raman spectra of orthorhombic sulfur (S,) have been recorded at 40 K employing multiscanning conditions. Assignments are proposed for the many new features detected, especially binary and ternary overtones and combinations of the SS stretching and S-S-S bending vibrations. The anharmonicities of these particular modes are shown to be fairly small.
