An Evaluation of Four Book Review Journals.

Booklist, Choice, Library Journal, and the New York Times Book Review are measured and compared by the follow ing criteria: (1) total number of adult books reviewed; (2) total number of juvenile and young adult books re viewed; (3) percentage of randomly selected Notable Books reviewed; and (4) how quickly those Notable Books were reviewed. A method is offered by which in dividual book selectors can "weight" each of the criteria according to the priority of their selection needs and thus determine which of these journals is best suited to those needs. With each category of measurement consid ered of equal weight, Booklist and Library Journal show the best performance.
