A Long-range Planning Case Study

A description of a long-range planning project undertaken by B.I.S.R.A. for an engineering company. The project developed a systematic, structured methodology and applied it to the current strategic problems. A three-level integrated planning system was proposed: Strategic (10-15 year) planning of the company's broad areas of interest; Development (5-year) planning of specific projects within these; and Fiscal (short-term) planning. The application of the analysis to the current situation identified and quantified forecast shortcomings relative to objectives, and provided a reasoned basis for planning how to overcome these shortfalls or realistically revise objectives. Included in the proposals was an organization of the planning function designed to secure the co-operation, consent and commitment of the line departments.
