Revealing Hidden Collections

Abstract In 1998, the Cataloging Department at Auburn University Libraries was directed to provide access to various uncataloged collections via the library's automated catalog, AubieCat, and to accomplish this task without diverting the department's limited staff and resources from newer materials. To respond to this need, the Temporary Cataloging Project was created. The project's mission was to identify uncataloged collections; identify their unique needs; select an appropriate cataloging strategy; select staff from the pool of public-service personnel and stadent labor; train the staff; and monitor the cataloging of each collection. Three collections are given as examples.
