A simulation study of kanban and CONWIP production control systems in a cold rolling plant

Abstract In order to get effective production control, different production control systems have been proposed. In this paper, the simulation study compares the CONWIP and Kanban system in an actual semi-continuous manufacturing plant, a cold rolling plant. Simulation results show that the CONWIP can greatly decrease the WIP(Work-in-Process), the average inventory and the average inventory cost, while hold the same throughput rate as that of Kanban system.
