A post-DFE path comparison detection algorithm

A new detection algorithm combining a DFE and a two-path tree search estimator (TPTS) is discussed. The DFE provides an adjustable polynomial to use in the tree search, which provides a performance advantage over fixed coefficient polynomials. Making use of the DFE output, a two-path tree search is carried our instead of a fixed-delay tree search (FDTS). We show that the TPTS is simpler to implement than other sub-optimal detectors with comparable performance.
