A Simple Controller using Line Commutated Inverter with Maximum Power Tracking for Wind-Driven Grid-Connected Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generators

A simple wind energy conversion scheme for permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSG) has been proposed using three-phase line commutated inverter with maximum power tracking for the first time. The controller extracts maximum power from the wind and feeds it to the three-phase utility grid. A closed loop scheme employing a PI controller and supplementary controller has been modeled in the power system blockset platform and the complete system has been simulated for different wind velocities. A prototype of the proposed system is built in the laboratory and the simulated results are experimentally verified.
