Send-on-delta sampling strategies for vehicle position tracking

This paper aims to track in real-time the position of a vehicle using GPS sensors, and transmit this position using available wireless technologies to a central monitoring system or to other vehicles. The goal is to improve the capabilities of drive-assisted cars by knowing in real-time the nearest traffic density, but without much increasing the communication and processing requirements of transmitters and receivers. To that end, this paper contributes by relating the nature of the sensed location data and the kinematics of the vehicles with the design of a distance-based or a velocity-based Send-on-Delta strategy, also called Amplitude-Based or Event-Based position signal tracking.
