The Influence of Lateral Aerodynamics on Stationary Response of a Vehicle

Considering the influence of lateral aerodynamics, an automotive kinetics model with two (degrees) of freedom was established. The relationships between the yaw rate gain and the center of wind pressure or the shape of automobile were derived. The first stability factor and the secondary stability factor were brought forward. It was explained that the main influence factor is the first stability factor and the secondary stability can be ignored. This paper provided a theoretic criterion for analyzing the influence of lateral aerodynamics of automotive and improving the stability of a vehicle at high speed.
