SIMULATION OF MULTI-UAV MISSIONS IN A REAL-TIME DISTRIBUTED HARDWARE-IN-THE-LOOP SIMULATOR

Increasing availability and accessibility Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) seeds the demand for new multi-UAV applications, and innovative control techniques to be used on them. However, testing new control techniques, hardware and software components pose high risk to the survivability of the UAV systems. The Modelling & Simulation (M&S) plays important role in risk reduction and development of contingency management plans as well as training the operational personnel. This paper presents the architecture of an operational multi-UAV system as well as the architecture of a real-time distributed Hardware-In-the-Loop (HWIL) simulation environment used for the Validation, Verification and Accreditation (VV&A) of multiUAV missions.
