Proposal for reducing press working load and highly accurate evaluation of springback error in bending automobile sheet metal

Abstract In this study, we examined a new method of predicting the shape fixation property by combining free bending test data with finite element method (FEM)simulation results. The amount of springback, which indicates the shape fixation property, was linearly related to the ratio of elastic strain irrespective of differences of material type, bending angle and radius condition. This hybrid system will help us to predict the shape and dimensions of parts in advance. Because of this system, we can determine the bending condition corresponding to material type and press capacity.
