3F Link Converter

For the purpose of making operating frequency higher to reduce the dimensions and weight of a power converter and its EM1 (Elec tro magnetic interference) problems, so-called s oft-switching h as become a far more important t echnique today. There exists typical two ways of approaches toward the ideal soft-switching circuit topologies. One IS based on nonresonant c onver- ter techniques using snubbers, and another is based on resonant converter techniques. The author p reviously proposed a novel totally soft-switched high frequency converter from nonresonant a pproach. However, there remained a problem of undesirable effect due to parasitic diodes in each bidirectional switching arm on its soft-switching characteristics. This effect is remarkable especially in the case of using MOS-FETs. This paper presents an improved arm topology to prevent such undesirable effect, and confirms total soft- switching operation by an experimental manner.
