Analysis of counter-pumped small-signal fibre Raman amplifiers

Analytic expressions for the small-signal optical gain and noise figure of a counter-pumped fibre Raman amplifier are presented for unequal signal and pump loss coefficients. The author also presents analytic approximations for the gain limitations imposed by double Rayleigh scattering.
