The Tactical Air Game: A Multimove Game with Mixed Strategy Solution

The interest in differential games is motivated to a large extent by the potential applications of the theory. We shall discuss several discrete time versions of differential games involving resource allocation. The games were developed over fifteen years ago to study the optimal employment of tactical air forces, and they are fairly realistic and complex. Complete mathematical solutions were then obtained and were of interest in the area of application. A significant feature of the solution in the most important model was that optimal play required the use of mixed strategies.
