RMS and power measurements based on Wavelet packet decomposition using special IIR filter bank

Wavelet packet decomposition (WPD), has been applied to meter the root mean square(RMS) and power. when using the method based on WPD for RMS and power measurement, the computational complexity of this algorithm is high, operation speed is low and unsuitable for the hardware realization. As results, the algorithm is not used popularly in practical application. Considering the problems above, This paper proposes the use of all-pass implemented special half-band elliptic infinite-impulse-response filters in the Wavelet packet decomposition of power measurements, The study of this paper reveals the proposed implementation reduces the computational complexity to levels comparable to FFT. the computer simulation experiment and Actual test results confirm the validity and accurate performance of the proposed method for power measurement.
