Some observations on dielectric breakdown in insulating films

Abstract Various types of rupture patterns are observed during dielectric breakdown of insulating films. These can be classified as propagating, single-hole and streak breakdowns. They are sensitive to the structure of the films and are also dependent on the dielectric strength. It has also been observed that the conductance and capacitance of capacitors prepared with insulating films increase with increasing voltage.
