KARDİYOLOJİ VE KALP DAMAR CERRAHİSİ HEMŞİRELERİNİN ARAŞTIRMA SONUÇLARINI KULLANMALARINI ETKİLEYEN FAKTÖRLER FACTORS INFLUENCING USE OF RESEARCH RESULTS BY CARDIOLOGY AND CARDIOVASCULAR SURGERY NURSES

4 Gulhane Askeri Tip Akademisi, Kalp Damar Cerrahi AD., Etlik /Ankara Abstract Introduction: Evidence-based nursing applications are seen as an important factor in increasing the quality of care in cardiology and cardiovascular surgery departments. Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the barriers and facilitating factors related to utilizing the results of nursing researches perceived by cardiology and cardiovascular surgery nurses. Method: The study was carried out with a total of 51 cardiology and cardiovascular surgery nurses from two training hospitals in Ankara between July 1 and 30, 2008, as a descriptive study. The Barriers scale which was developed by Funk et al. and nurse description form, which was constituted by researchers, were used for the study. Results: The mean age of the nurses in the study was 30.67± 5.59, and the mean duration of employment was 10.06± 6.77 years. Most of nurses (54.9%) had graduated from Nursing Health Vocational High School, 90.2% of them had not participated in a research or a scientific activity (78.4%), 98% of them do not read journals regularly, and 88.2% of them do not take post graduation courses on research methods The most important barriers perceived by nurses' were "lack of time, collaboration, and self authority" according to Barriers Scale. It was determined that the scale general mean point was 60.96±20.58 and nurses perceived middle level barriers to utilizing the results of nursing studies. The nurses have recommended the most important facilitating factors as "Support and encouragement from hospital management for nurses to carry out research and use the results", and "educational support for research". Conclusions: In this study, it was determined that the barriers and facilitating factors related to utilizing the results of nursing researches perceived by cardiology and cardiovascular surgery nurses were parallel with similar study results. It is assessed that nurses be trained in research and evidence-based applications, and supported from hospital management could be useful. (Anatol J Clin Investig 2008:2(4);160-166).
