Performance of LDPC‐coded optical on‐off keying communication systems

In this letter, we study the performance of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes in a Poisson optical channel with on- off keying modulation. We modify the iterative decoding algorithm used in binary phase-shift keying modulation and additive white Gaussian noise channels. The simulation results show that the LDPC codes has perfor- mance improvements over parallel concatenated convolutional codes. Therefore, LDPC codes is well suited for optical channels with signal energy constraints. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt
