Summary of high-availability DHCP service solutions

In today's network architecture, as a basic service to decide whether clients can link in network or not, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol(DHCP) service plays a very important role. The redundancy of DHCP system must be improved in case of single points failure or serious natural disasters which may lead to the interruption of DHCP service. This paper introduces various approaches to realize DHCP system's redundancy, and their advantages and disadvantages. The development of DHCP FAILOVER protocol is also described in this article. This paper aims to introduce different vendors' solution, enabling the reader to select the appropriate solution according to a specific network deployment.
