Precooling of Tomato Fruit for Shelf Life Extension

Tomato is a climacteric fruit grown widely in the world. After harvesting of tomato fruits its respiration continues and become more prone to microbial spoilage, water loss and decay due to field heat. Immediate precooling of fruits after harvesting removes the field heat and significantly extends the shelf life. Further, the storage of precooled tomato fruits at low temperature contributes to shelf life extension and retention of nutrition & sensory quality.
