Design of a Virtual Community Infrastructure for Elderly Care

The virtual organizations paradigm combined with adequate tools to support the cooperation of social care assistants, health care professionals, elderly people, and their relatives, constituting a "virtual community", represent a promising approach to reduce the overwhelming care provision costs and to increase their quality. An architecture for a flexible platform based on adoptive mobile agents and information federation mechanisms is proposed and preliminary feasibility experiments are described.
