DEVELOPMENT OF ERGONOMIC DESIGN GUIDELINES FOR MULTIMODAL TRANSPORT INFORMATION SYSTEMS: THE USE OF MOCK UPS

This improvement in information communication is certainly an opportunity to optimise the use of transport network in general, and public transport network more specifically. Indeed, the fact to be informed anywhere (i.e. mobile phone), in advance (i.e. web sites), easily (i.e. vocal interaction) and in real time, will allow the traveller to organise his route with more efficiency and more matching according to the goal and the motivations of his trip. In the framework of the European project Infopolis, the task ERGOLAB has been devoted to the development of mock ups to investigate functions and Human Machine Interaction principles for multimodal transport systems such as Public Access Terminal, web site and portable. The development of these mock ups followed iterative processes between Design and Evaluation, with testing conducted among experts and among Spanish, Belgium and French samples of travellers. This approach allowed to set up a pool of ergonomic design guidelines, with their related rationale and some illustrative examples, in order to support the design process.
