Research on Traveling Wavefront Identification Method Based on the Dominant Frequency Component of Full Waveform

Traveling wavefront identification accuracy and wave speed selection precision are crucial to traveling wave location. Aiming at the two issues, the method based on the dominant frequency component of full waveform is proposed. At first, the time-frequency characteristic is studied by full waveforms of the traveling wave, especially the frequency-dependent characteristic of wave speed and wavefront attenuation. Second, according to the criterion of the maximum energy, the dominant frequency component can be extracted from all frequency components and the corresponding wave speed is calculated. Finally, Teager Energy Operation (TEO) is introduced to enhance the transient feature of the dominant frequency component in order to precisely determine traveling wavefront the arrival time. The simulation results show that the traveling wavefront identification performance based on the proposed method is pretty to meet the fault location requirement. Also, the proposed method is adaptive under different fault conditions.
