Decision paths affecting turnover among information technology professionals

The purpose of this study was to better understand the factors influencing voluntary turnover particularly among information technology (IT) professionals. Toward that end, we tested the "unfolding model of voluntary turnover" as it applies to IT professionals. A large majority of respondents reported "image violation" and either job search or an offer in hand prior to job change. In contrast to previously theorized decision pathways, the majority of respondents following a wide variety of "atheoretical" paths.
