GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS IN TRANSPORTATION (GIS-T) : AN INFRASTRUCTURE MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS TOOL
暂无分享,去创建一个
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have gained increasing recognition and popularity over the last several years as a means of effectively integrating both graphic and textual data. It is proposed that, with some modifications to accommodate specific transportation agency information processing requirements, these systems can provide and effective infrastructure management information system for senior transportation agency decision makers. This paper will first examine the current status of GIS technologies and prerequisite datasets, as well as some institutional issues associated with implementation. Specific enhancements to basic GIS functionality required for transportation GIS (GIS-T) will then be discussed. Suggestions for successful implementation will be presented, followed by two examples of Canadian GIS-T implementation initiatives.
