Investigation on Machining Performance of Inconel 718 in High Pressure Cooling Conditions

The paper deals with the experimental investigation on machinability of Inconel 718 in conventional and various high pressure cooling conditions. The experiments designed based on Taguchi L18 orthogonal array at three different cutting speed, feed rate and pressure levels and two different depth of cuts. The cutting forces and tool flank wear were measured, while turning of Inconel 718 with (Ti,Al)N+TiN coated CNMG0812. In order to determine the importance of cutting parameters on tool flank wear and cutting forces, ANOVA (Analysis of variance) was employed. Moreover, with regression analysis, multi regression equation which indicating relation between tool flank wear, cutting forces and cutting parameters were obtained. The experiment results have proven that the tool flank wear and cutting forces considerably decrease with the use of high pressure coolant. ANOVA results also indicate that high pressure cooling has significant beneficial effect on tool flank wear.
