Design of Single Carrier modulation system with Frequency Domain Equalization

This paper presents a mobile radio system for frequency domain equalization (FDE) applied to single carrier (SC) modulation solutions to combat the effects of multipath fading channels. SC modulation has reduced peak-to-average power radio requirements to OFDM, enabling the use of less costly power amplifiers. SC modulation performance with FDE is similar to that of OFDM, even for very long channel delay spread. The channel estimation error due to the channel variation severely degrades demodulator performance. A large channel estimation error occurs a last symbol of packet in a fast-fading channel. We present a new packet format that is against a fading channel. Therefore, we design SC modulation system with FDE.
