Best embedding direction for spread spectrum-based video watermarking

Watermarking is a copyright protection technique that embeds information imperceptibly into digital content. Watermarking is generally assessed on the basis of content quality, robustness, and data capacity. In recent years, information hiding and its evaluation criteria have been developed by the IHC (Information Hiding and its Criteria) committee of Japan. This committee annually conducts watermarking contests and proposes additional criteria for watermarking standards. In the video watermarking area, the embedding position is an important issue. To satisfy one of the IHC evaluation criteria, in this study, we exploit the best embedding position available in a spread spectrum-based watermarking system using several directions, such as time axis, horizontal axis, etc. Our experimental results show that the time axis is the best approach.
