Education Psychology, Research Methodology, and Meta-Analysis

Educational psychologists have been at the forefront of research methodology advances in the behavioral social sciences for many years. We have contributed major advances in research design, measurement theory, and statistical analyses. Now meta-analysis, developed by Glass and markedly advanced by Hedges (both educational psychologists), is a capping development and paradigm shift in the way psychologists, and now physicists, biochemists, and medical researchers, interpret data. Meta-analysis as a method of theory development is discussed; a meta-analysis of sentence combining in writing research is presented.
