ITS IN OPEN-CUT MINING

Within an open cut mine, the process of extracting ore and transporting it from the pit to the dump is continuously repeated where the interaction between haul truck and excavator must run like clockwork to optimise efficiency. The Transport Systems Centre of the University of South Australia and Macmahon Holdings Limited have worked together to develop a real time monitoring system of open cut mining operations. Haul trucks have been fitted with devices to collect positional data and data based on activities performed. The vast amount of data that have now been collected at various sites has been useful in allowing mining personnel to manage and improve the operation of the site to reach the goal of maximum efficiency and to ensure that target productivity levels are met.
