Improving Reliability In A High Static Head System Through VFD Application

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 2008, he was invited to lead the Dynamic Equipment area of COMPERJ, the biggest petrochemical complex of Brazil, still under construction. He joined Petrobras in 1989, and began working with rotating equipment maintenance. He was transferred to the process area dealing with rotating equipment optimization, operational proceeding improvements, and operator training, moved to the Mechanical Projects area and, finally, to the Rotating Equipment Reliability area. Since late 2003 he has been developing experiments related to Process Control through Centrifugal Pump Speed Variation, with his colleague Enio Lima, at Duque de Caxias Refinery. Mr. Martins received his M.S. degree (Mechanical Engineering, 1988) from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Rio de Janeiro.
