AN AUTOMATED ANTHROPOMETRIC TOOL FOR HUMAN FACTORS ENGINEERING

For some time there have been software prototyping tools available to the Human Factors engineer to develop the human-computer interface (HCI) of a system. Recently, software programs that aid in the prototyping of the hardware have been developed. These programs run on graphical workstations and enable the human factors engineer to build three dimensional models and analyze them, on a number of anthropometric variables, using human form models. This paper describes how such a program is being used to model and analyze the FAA's Display System Replacement (DSR) Air Traffic Control workstations.
