Adaptive coding algorithm for a mammogram image database

The image data base SENOBASE, including 400 documented digital images, is proposed and described. A set of 100 images, extracted from SENOBASE, is then coded using an adaptive DCT coding technique. This method takes into account the main characteristics of mammograms, mainly their low contrast and their complex structure. A systematic evaluation study is performed by an expert, in order to evaluate the image content after the coding and decoding steps. The result is analyzed in terms of diagnosis performance.
