A Preliminary Study on a Mobile System for Voice Assessment and Vocal Hygiene Training: The Case of Teachers

The aim of this study was to present preliminary verification results on a voice assessment mobile system used by teachers. A summary of voice characteristics is presented in terms of means and standard deviation. Significant statistical differences were noted for Voice Handicap Index Total and its dimensions and Reflux Symptoms Index scores between school teachers without voice disorders using the mobile system and an aged matched voice professional population with voice disorders that were traditionally administrated. No significant differences were obtained between teachers without voice disorders using the mobile system and the corresponding population without voice disorders using the above questionnaires traditionally. Finally the results of the study are discussed together with the perspective of teacher education on vocal hygiene routines indicating the accuracy and therefore the verification of the mobile system according to the requirements and design specifications.
