23.3: Influence of White‐point Setting and Contrast on Perceived Image Quality

The effect on the perceived colorfulness, sharpness and overall image quality of the white‐point setting, the contrast ratio and their mutual interaction have been investigated for different cultural backgrounds and ambient illuminations. The image quality assessments have been repeated in Europe at one ambient illumination condition and in China at two different illumination environments. The results indicate that the preferred white‐point setting and contrast value mainly depend on the content of the displayed images.
