Performance of Warm Mix Recycled Asphalt containing up to 100% RAP

Abstract The asphalt industry has been under pressure to reduce its emissions. This can be achieved, from one hand, by decreasing the mixing and laying temperatures of asphalt mixtures. On the other hand, recycling of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) is a viable solution that allows reducing waste production and resources consumption. This paper presents a study that combines Warm Mix Asphalt with the use of RAP aggregates. These mixtures, while being produced at lower temperature than traditional Hot Mixtures contain 100% RAP. Several Warm Mix Recycled Asphalt (WMRA) were prepared with 100% RAP and different emulsion contents and their behaviour was assessed by means of laboratory tests such as water sensitivity, stiffness, fatigue resistance and rutting resistance. The obtained results show that these WMRA may be successfully used in road pavements in substitution of conventional Hot Mix Asphalts.
