VOLUMETRIC PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF A LASER SCANNER

INTRODUCTION Large volume laser scanners are increasingly used for a variety of purposes such as digitization and reverse engineering, historical preservation and archiving, and even dimensional metrology of large artifacts. While not as accurate as laser trackers, laser scanners do offer the advantage of speed and high data density. There are several sources of error in a laser scanner measurement such as the influence of the optical and material properties of the target, the shape, form, surface texture and orientation of the target in space, environmental effects, geometric misalignments within the instrument, etc.
