Distributed PMIPv6 based on the Prefix Aggregation

IETF has proposed a promising network-based mobility management method, called Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6), which does not require any participation of mobile hosts in mobility-related signaling. However, it remains an open issue how to deploy the PMIPv6 while keeping optimized path route and low signaling costs. In this paper, we propose a Distributed PMIPv6 scheme based on the Prefix Aggregation, namely DPPA. In DPPA, all the LMAs in the extended home network are connected to each other via the global tunnel and announce their aggregated prefix to the Internet. Besides, by using the IP anycast routing, the signaling messages and data packets destined to any IP address that belongs to the aggregated prefix can be transmitted to the topologically closest LMA. Our analysis results show that DPPA has a more optimized path and lower location update cost and packet transmission cost when compared to PMIPv6.
