Technical issues in windfarms and supporting activities within the international energy agency (IEA)

Abstract A brief review of wake and cluster studies carried out under the auspices of the International Energy Agency serves as an introduction to the objectives of the current study. This is focussed on developing a better understanding of the physical processes which occur in arrays of wind turbines, so that energy losses and increased blade loads can be predicted with confidence. A brief summary of the national contributions shows the importance attached to data from actual windfarms.
