Design and Implementation of a Novel Bidirectional DC-DC Converter with Coupled Inductor

In this paper, a novel bidirectional boost/buck converter with coupled inductor is designed and implemented. When batteries release energy to a DC bus, this converter functions like a parallel boost converter with a coupled inductor. With proper design, ZVS turn-on and ZCS turn-off can be respectively realized by primary side switches and secondary side switch parasitic diodes. In this manner, the switching loss and reverse recovery problems are reduced, thereby improving converter efficiency. Finally, a laboratory prototype circuit with 110 V/ 400 V and output power of 1 kW is implemented to verify the feasibility of the proposed converter.
