Voltage Control in Active Distribution Networks and an Approach based on Model Predictive Control

With the rise in penetration of renewable energy sources in electric distribution networks, reliable operation and control of power system have become a challenge for power system operators. The paradigm shift from passive to active distribution network causes various issues such as, stability, voltage and frequency regulation, designing of protection equipment, etc. Thus, there arises the need of a proper control strategy to deal with such concerns. This paper presents a review of the voltage control strategies already existed in literature. Subsequently, a methodology is also proposed here to regulate voltages in active distribution networks.
