A dual polarized patch radiator for phased arrays

A well-matched microstrip patch radiator is described that has orthogonal dual-linear polarization. This is accomplished over a wide bandwidth and wide scan angle under a low-profile constraint. The performance is characterized by a less than 2:1 voltage standing wave ratio over a 10% bandwidth and suppression of cross-polarization by more than 20 dB. Features of this configuration include: orthogonal balanced probe feeds, one pair connected to the base plate (horizontal polarization) and the other connected to the patch (vertical polarization); a microstrip circuit; and a topology that permits both polarization matching circuits to coexist in one structure.<<ETX>>
